‘I’m in love with poetry’ – Toni Payne

‪‪Toni Payne is the estranged wife of award-winning singer, 9ice. They parted ways in 2009 and since then, she has concentrated on her career as an artiste manager and showbiz personality until recently when she’s been playing the role of a publicist for ex-hubby, who just released a new single entitled Ike-Kan (One Plastic).

‪‪ENCOMIUM Weekly spoke with her on career, new roles and relationship with the rave of the moment,  Olamide.

‪‪To start with, what’s your projection for this year for your business?

‪‪My projection for my business this year is growth. I’m launching Toni Payne International. So, I am going to be doing a lot of groundwork, getting Naija (Nigerian) music across the ocean

‪‪How far have you covered Nigeria?

‪‪I believe when it comes to music PR in Nigeria, I’m close or have reached the peak. Within the shortest time, I have been able to carve a niche for myself and I’m happy today where I am. Its now routine, I know my way around the industry quite well and it’s working for me. For how far have covered, you can visit my site  (www.tonipayneonline.com)

‪‪Tell us some of your major works so far?

‪‪I have worked with a wide range of personalities ranging from Onyeka Onwenu to Olamide to Adol, amongst others. Also, I have been doing poetry lately trying to create an appreciation for the art because I appreciate work of art so much.

‪‪Hw do you feel when you see Olamide doing wonderfully now?

‪‪I’m proud of him. He’s a talented young man with a lot of passion for music.

‪‪How was your experience working with him?

‪‪It was cool. It’s always good when you work with someone who wants to be successful and is willing to work hard for it.

‪‪Any regret parting ways with him?

‪‪Not at all. He’s doing fine and I’m also doing fine. For me, the job is a passion. So, as long as anyone I have worked with is doing fine, I’m very okay with that as well.

‪‪But did you miss him?

As per missing him, he is just a phone call or drive away. Not like we are on different continents.

‪‪Let’s talk about your TV show. We’ve not been seeing it on air. What’s happening?

‪‪I had a TV show called My ChamPAYNE life. It was produced by Total Recal and ‪‪I only agreed to do a season just to get a feel of what it’s like to do TV. It got syndicated so they are doing reruns on certain networks. The TV show centered around my work life, a part of me most people don’t get to see. But right now, I’m working on a talk show called Toni Payne Show.

‪‪You’ve been behind the publicity for 9ice’s new single, Ike-Kan. Why are you doing it for him?

‪‪You guys should be in talking terms…

‪‪I don’t want to talk about it.

‪‪Tell us your love life?

‪‪I’ve found a new love and it’s poetry. Poetry is my new love.

‪‪How has life been treating you as a single mother?

‪‪Depends on what you mean by single mother.

‪‪Single mother in the sense that your son is separated from his dad?

‪‪The word single mother is relative. My child has both his parents when he needs us.

‪‪How is your son, Zion doing?

‪‪He’s great, thanks

‪‪What’s your plan for him?

‪‪I’ll stick to God’s plans for him.
