Wave-making and young budding actress, Seyi Hunter has joined the league of Nigerian movie producers. In an interview with ENCOMIUM Weekly, the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun state graduate of Theatre Arts talked about her first effort as a producer, Indecent Assault…

Seyi-hunterLet’s talk about your movie, Indecent Assault?

Indecent Assault is a story about sex, betrayal, sexuality, greed and hate. It’s about a girl, Nneka who is a student and a normal runs-girl that sleeps around with men for money and fight over men. She was sleeping with her sister’s husband without the knowledge of her sister. But along the line, something happened and things got really bad. You have to watch the movie to know what really happened.

What inspired the movie?

I wanted to do something catchy. I was actually looking for a story. I got different scripts before I got this one, but when I saw this, I liked it because it’s touchy and sends a message.

What informed the choice of the cast of the movie, why didn’t you use known faces like Mercy Johnson?

To start with, I don’t look like Mercy Johnson. The major reason I cast Angela Phillip is because we look alike. We have the same facial features. When people saw her, they actually thought she was my sister.

Is the movie of any significance to Nigerians?

This movie will make a great impact. A huge one in the country. I know a lot of people will appreciate it.

How was the experience working with the cast?

The cast and crew were amazing, especially the crew. They were so simple. The director really helped me. They carried me along, they treated me like the baby producer that I am. They made the job better than I expected.

It is believed a lot of actors get into production when they can’t get roles, was that your case?

I had production in mind even before I joined the industry. I started acting fully late last year in the Yoruba genre. I actually want to do English, so I went to study English by March this year and since then, I have done more than eight movies. If I don’t get roles, at least I have done eight. It was never the reason.

I like the idea of making something out of nothing.

As a graduate of Theatre Arts, why did you decide on selling wine before film production. Is it as a result of no job?

Film production has always been my first choice right from childhood. You have to know someone, there must be a connection before they give you a job. So many people are called for audition for formality sake, while they already know the people they want to use.

The cast in this movie, I didn’t know them before. I have not worked with them. I actually have some friends in the industry that I have worked with, but they are not in this movie just because I don’t want it that way.

What is the difference between this movie and others in the cinemas with similar storyline?

Trust me, similar storyline but not the same thing. You have to see this to understand they’re not the same. You will be shocked when you watch this movie.

What more should we expect from you?

We have a media house, Hunter’s Film Production which I am one of the partners. We are going into full time production.
