The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented to Mr. Uche Ogah, a certificate of return confirming him as the new governor of Abia State.
This follows the ruling by an Abuja High Court mandating the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to issue Certificate of Return to Ogah who came second at the last Peoples Democratic Party, PDP primaries in the state.
Justice Okon Abang who delivered the judgement had ruled that the incumbent governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu did not file his tax clearance in 2011, 2012 and 2013, and that all payments he made preceding the 2014 primary were made in one day and not as and when due.
In his view, he held that Ikpeazu perjured by lying under oath when he said that he had fulfilled all the requirements to contest the 2015 governorship election.
Based on these, the court ruled that Ikpeazu was not qualified to be the candidate of the PDP in the primary of 2014 and was also not qualified to be fielded as the candidate for the 2015 election.
Ogah is to be sworn in immediately.
