Inside Ifako/Ijaiye constituency bye-election

After the death of a member of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Adewale Elijah on Thursday, July 21, 2016, representing Ifako/Ijaiye Constituency, Lagos State, the people of Ifako/Ijaiye are yet to have another representative in Abuja. Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are yet to announce the date for the bye-election in the constituency but aspirants are already announcing their interest to contest under the umbrella of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Our correspondent contacted Comrade Banji Adeniyi, former PA to Special Adviser from the Ojokoro LCDA. In our chat, he confirmed to us that Ojokoro has conceded the position to Ifako. Allowing Ifako to produce another member who will represent its people in the house of Rep.

“The decision was the result of the meeting held by the 10 stakeholders from the Ojokoro LCDA including Hon. Benjamin Olabinjo who’s the Special Adviser to governor on commerce and Hon. Lanre Makinde, among others, who were present at the meeting.

The final decision was to allow Ifako provide another qualified representative since the deceased representative was from the zone”, he said.

Hon. Nurudeen Rasaq when contacted told our correspondent that the primary election that will be conducted will bring the best representative for the constituency.

HON. GBOYEGA SALVADOR ADEBAYO – Former Special Adviser to governor on Parastatals Monitoring Office

He has announced his interest to contest for the position alongside other contestants. Among other contestants, he’s said to have an edge in becoming the next representative of the constituency.


HON. KAYODE AREMO – Former Secretary to the Local Government (SLG)/Vice chairman Ifako Ijaiye

Hon. Kayode Aremo belongs to the caucus of the late Hon. Adewale Elijah (Ajumose Caucus). He has also announced his interest to represent Ifako/Ijaiye in the Federal House of Representatives.



He’s the second son of the late Hon. Adewale Elijah. He’s contesting alongside Hon. Kayode Aremo from the same Ajumose Caucus. He’s said to be working for the APC leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu before he was called upon to contest in the election under Ajumose Caucus.


HON. AKINWUMI – Former secretary to the Local government

He’s one of the contestants who have announced their interest to represent the people of Ifako/Ijaiye under the Atayese Caucus of the APC.



Sources close to Hon. Sheriff confirmed his interest in the position but he’s yet to announce it himself. He’s said to be a silent contestant under the mandate caucus.


HON. DAYO SAKA FAFUNMI – Member of the Lagos State Assembly

He’s yet to make his aspirantion known to many, but sources confirmed Hon. Fafunmi’s interest in representing the people of Ifako/Ijaiye in the house of Rep.


HON. OLAYINKA ADEKUNLE – SSA on Political Affairs in Lagos State

He has also announced his interest to contest for the position in Ifako/Ijaiye.


HON. DEMOLA DOHERTY – Former Local Government chairman Ifako/Ijaiye

He is said to have interest in representing Ifako/Ijaiye in the Federal House of Reps. One of the delegates who spoke to our correspondent confirmed the news.


HON. BENHAMIN OLABINJO – Special Adviser to Lagos State government on Commerce

He’s one of the stakeholders from Ojokoro who supported the zoning to Ifako/Ijaiye. Sources close to Hon. Benjamin confirmed to us that he’s also interested in the position but he’s yet to make it known to the public as he’s contesting silently.
