Inside the N100 m fabulous nuptials of Ita-Giwa’s daughter (6): Bits and pieces from the wedding reception

A lot was really going on while the reception was on.  These are what you probably didn’t know…

THE EXCLUSIVE REVELRY @ EKO HOTEL’S PENT HOUSE

When we thought that Senator Ita-Giwa’s high profile guests had retired for the night, we didn’t know some of them were busy enjoying themselves at the hotel’s pent house.

We better leave some of the things going on there to your imagination.  Suffice to say that wines and spirits flew freely.  The exclusive party went on till 3 a.m!

SENATOR ITA-GIWA WAS EVERYWHERE

The hostess, Senator Ita-Giwa was practically everywhere to make sure her guests were well taken care of.

GUESTS SHUN LATE DINNER

You know that ladies don’t eat late.  So, you can as well guess what would happen to the sumptuous dinner provided by the hotel.

THE PARTY WAS MASSIVELY ATTENDED

It’s not exaggeration to say that everyone that matters in Nigeria was present at the wedding or ably represented.  The roll call of guests is intimidating.

KOKO’S WEDDING GULPED OVER N100 MILLION!

When ENCOMIUM Weekly reliably informed you that Senator Ita-Giwa and the Obiohas would be splashing over N100m in their children’s wedding, you took it with a pinch of salt. But unofficial sources say the wedding might have even cost over N100m!  With Senator Ita-Giwa reportedly spending about N38 million on accommodation alone at Eko Hotel & Suites.

THE COUPLES’ LOVE STORY

Chimaobi Shawcross Obioha Jnr., and Kokoeka Florence Maeyen Ita met at the peak of summer 2008 through mutual friends.  According to Koko, the love has since grown to a point of no return.  “I have met someone I’ve grown with and we are still growing together.  Now that growth is unending in every sense of the word.  So, we didn’t just grow together physically but we matured together,” she said in an interview.

She went on to confess that being with her heartthrob is one of the things she’s most fortunate to have.

Chimaobi also describes Koko in superlative terms: beautiful, young, warm and friendly.  He said their relationship just grew stronger.  “No day passed without me thinking about her, wondering what she was up to or where she was.  Basically, our friendship had grown to our being inseparable.  This had never happened to me before.  So, I knew she was the special one.”

HOW CHIMAOBI PROPOSED TO KOKO

Chimaobi said he proposed to Koko during her graduation period (she had just completed her first degree from the University of Essex, England).

“We were invited to a dinner by a friend at the 02 Arena in London.  So, after having dinner, on our way to the car, I kept on joking about proposing like I had done in the past, knowing full well she won’t take it seriously.  That’s when I popped the question.  I knew she would say yes because I saw her reaction in the past when we had such discussions.”

Chimaobi said he would have married Koko before now if not that his mother-in-law, Senator Ita-Giwa wanted her to first get her Masters and sort out other things before giving her away in marriage.

Koko interestingly got her Masters at 22 and married at 23!

SCHOOLS THE COUPLE ATTENDED

Koko left Nigeria for England at the age of 9.  Before that she went to a boarding school, Busy Bees, Apapa.  She also attended Corona in Victoria Island, Lagos, Abuja Community School and British International School, Lekki.  Three years later she returned to United Kingdom to complete her education.  Her first port of call was Cambridge University where she studied Law and the University of Essex, International Relations.  Her Masters was in International Development at VEL, London.

Chimaobi is also well educated.  In his late 20s, he started his primary education at Corona, Ikoyi, Lagos.  He attended Igbinedion Education Centre, Benin City for his secondary while he graduated from International Business, Coventry University, Coventry, England.

ABOUT THE FAMILIES OF THE NEWLY-WED

Koko is the daughter of former Senator of the Federal Republic, Chief Florence Ita-Giwa.  A PDP chieftain, Mama Bakassi was a former Special Adviser to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.  She is well connected and knows people who matter in society, business and politics.  Senator Ita-Giwa is from the disputed Bakassi area of Cross River State, South-South Nigeria.

Chimaobi Shawcross Obioha Jnr., is also from a prominent Igbo family.  He’s the son of late mogul and socialite, Chief Shawcross Obioha.  From Ideato, Imo State, his family is ‘stinkingly’ rich.  Obioha has three siblings, two girls and a brother.

His mom, Mrs. Evelyn Obioha is a lawyer.
