ISIS: Britain funds Kurdish forces to battle Islamic militants in Iraq

British government is equipping Kurdish forces fighting Islamic State militants in Iraq with more than 1.6million pounds worth of heavy machine guns and ammunition, the Ministry of Defence said yesterday (September 9).

According to Britain’s Defence secretary, Michael Fallon, “the Kurdish forces remain significantly less well equipped than IS and we are responding to help them defend themselves, protect citizens and push back IS advances”.

He also said the UK is ‘committed to assisting the government of Iraq’, and at the country’s request, is shipping over the machine guns and ammunition, costing about 475,000 to transport and due to arrive in the country today (September 10).
