Iya Kike 2: ‘She likes fighting for her right’ – Kikelomo Majekodunmi Aderibigbe (first daughter)

How would you describe her as a mother?

If I start talking about my mom, we won’t leave here. My mom was a nice person and very accommodating too. She disliked cheating and she always fought for her right. Wherever you think the road was blocked, my mother would make sure she found a way out. Even in our home, she made sure we had no problem. She never forgot our birthdays. She would be the first person to call to wish us happy birthday. Even on Christmas and New Year, she would call our families and outsiders to wish them well. I can’t say it all, her colleagues, her neighbours felt her impact, even in church.

Did you ever envisage she would die this soon?

I never thought she would die this soon. It’s not easy at all. I can’t still believe she is gone because she played a big role in my life. Whatever I wanted to do, I would tell her and she would put me through. Even where I worked before, my colleagues would always shout at me whenever I called her. They would say I should let the poor woman be.

Were you there when she died?

Yes, she died in my hands, I couldn’t believe it. I still told the doctor that it was not possible for my mom to die that way. But they said there was nothing they could do. I didn’t believe it until someone came to me and said my mom was truly dead, that I should take heart.

What will you miss about her?

Alot. I will miss a lot about her. First, is her prayer, her songs because she had a special song for me. She was my friend. There was nothing I did that she didn’t know about. I will miss everything about her.
