Two more ‘Jonathan’s men were today, June 20, arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC; a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Andrew Yakubu and the chairman of Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts Nigeria Limited, Jide Omokore.
And, judging by the remarks made last month by the Chairman of the anti graft agency, Ibrahim Magu, both Yakubu and Omokore ‘will not come out clean’.
The two men according to the agency would be charged on Tuesday before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja on a four-count charge of money laundering.
Other defendants to the charge are: Victor Briggs, Abiye Memnere, David Mbanefo, Atlantic Energy Brass Development Limited and Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts Limited.
It would be recalled that a federal high court freezed $1.8 billion assets owned by Omokore and his business partner, Kola Aluko through a Mareva injunction. They were linked to former petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke in a wide range of business dealings that allegedly illegally transferred Nigerian oil assets to them and their companies.
Andrew Yakubu was on the other hand, was the former Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Office of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, having been appointed by the former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012 and relieved of his duty when he passed the baton to Joseph Dawha in 2014.
The arrest of Yakubu and Omokore further swells the already bloated number of Jonathan’s men under investigation/prosecution by the Buhari administration.
