Kachi Onubogu celebrates @ 40: ‘It’s a privilege to be alive!’

Saturday, July 27, 2013 will forever remain an important date in the life of Onyekachukwu Onubogu, Commercial Director, Promasidor Nigeria Limited as he celebrated his 40th birthday in grand style.

Kachi, as he is fondly called by friends and associates, hosted over 400 guests to a superlative dinner at the Shell Hall of the Muson Centre (Onikan, Lagos), using the opportunity to also raise funds to support a hospital (Iyi-enu hospital in Ogidi, Anambra state).

ENCOMIUM Weekly was at the colourful event and in this interview with our reporter, the birthday boy expressed his delight at turning 40, his hope of raising N20 million to support the Cardio unit of the hospital, the possibility of joining politics and more…

How does it feel being 40?

It’s great, it’s fantastic and more importantly, I’m thankful to God for sparing my life these 40 years.

Would you say you’re a fulfilled man at 40?

Yes, I will. I have been blessed by God and I think the first thing is that my being alive today is a blessing and I’ve had a good career, a great family, and if you look at the hall, I have great friends. There are about 400 people here across board from different sectors and industries and they’ve all made out time to come join me. So I think it’s fulfilment for me and I’m grateful to every one of them and I’m really thankful to God.

How do you relax?

I play with my kids, watch movies, I play chess and I read.

If you could turn back the hands of time, what do you think you would do differently?

I think I’ll serve humanity more. It’s a privilege to be alive. It’s a privilege to help people, and I think I would have done much more than I’ve done today.

What more do you want God to do for you?

Give me the grace to be a better person, to lead people, to help people and to give more to society and community.

What is the fund raising all about?

It’s about raising funds for Iyi-enu hospital in Ogidi, Anambra State. That’s my community and I believe it’s our responsibility as every Nigerian to give back to society, and I know I have friends who will support me. I want to help and it’s my calling for the next 40/50 years of my life, God helping.

Usually when people become successful in the city or abroad and they return to their community to do projects like this one, it is assumed that they’re on the verge of joining politics. Will you make yourself available if your community asks you to come and serve?

This is about people. It’s about helping people, that’s all. What the future will be, I don’t know, it’s left to God. But I will serve my community in every and any way I can.
