Keeping fit helps relieve stress

Researchers reveal that exercising will help you cope with stress at work. The study shows that keeping fit helps your energy level and also relaxes your waistline.

According to researchers at Basel University and Gothernburg Hospital (both in Sweden), those with low fitness risk heart attack or stroke. The study was done on 200 employees to test their fitness level.

They tested different risk factors for heart and blood diseases including blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), triglycerides (a form of fat) and cholesterol. Those who weren’t exercising had high level of bad cholesterol in their blood when they were stressed.

The study revealed that stress and heart attacks or diseases are affected majorly by not being fit. Stressed employees with high fitness level had lower levels of risk for heart disease than those who don’t exercise at all.

Head of the study at the University of Basel, Professor Markus Gerber added that the findings are significant because it is precisely when people are stressed that they tend to engage in physical activity less often.
