Anxiety has continued to mount over the state of health of Gospel singer, Kefee Obareki. Fresh information gotten from her husband, Teddy Don-Momoh who has been keeping vigil by the bed side of the woman who means the whole world to him in the last few days indicated that she is still under intensive care at a United States of America private hospital as he (Teddy) calls for prayers for his singer wife to bounce back as soon as possible.
A terse message from the popular radio presenter made available to ENCOMIUM Weekly read, “Kefee is still in coma but she wants her friends, fans and well-wishers to know that she loves them. We just need prayers now, she just needs our prayers now because there is nothing God cannot do. Prayer is the key. God is still the same yesterday, today and forever. He has done it before and He will do it again.’’
However, fresh information emerged on Sunday, June 8, 2014, as to the actual cause of Kefee’s current health situation. She is said to have been diagnosed with Pre-eclampsia, an ailment identified as pregnancy induced high blood pressure.
Kefee was said to be six months pregnant before embarking on the 14-hour flight to Chicago but collapsed and went into coma. According to a source, Kefee was unaware she had high blood pressure before embarking on the trip. Medics said that her pregnancy made her situation dicey. She only needs a miracle to bounce back.
“Kefee is in a precarious situation because of the six months pregnancy. If the foetus had been nine months, the doctor would have removed the baby and saved the mother and child. As it is now, not only will the baby not survive because the carrier is in coma, Kefee may also lose her life from further complications.”
Kefee reportedly collapsed on a Chicago (IIIinois) bound flight last week which forced the plane to make an emergency landing in Los Angeles so she could receive adequate medical attention. And since then she has being in coma.
A source revealed the Kokoroko crooner was in the USA to perform at an occasion. The incident happened after the said performance. She was also in the US to shoot her music video which was directed by her husband, Teddy.
Meanwhile, Kefee’s restaurant business is still running despite her absence due to the health challenge. The place called Branama Kitchen in Mende Maryland, Lagos was opened for business when ENCOMIUM Weekly visited there on Saturday, June 7, 2014. Kefee’s younger brother, Kelvin who spoke to ENCOMIUM Weekly on Saturday June 7, 2014, maintained her sister’s business will continue to run while away in the US.
“Branama Kitchen has to keep running. It’s her dream and we can’t stop it. Nothing bad will happen to her. Presently, she is getting better and will be back very soon. She has a kitchen manager who is in charge there. Remember the place was shut when she was in the U.S for her course and when she came back it was reopened and it will not be closed again. She was in the U.S for some projects and to shoot her music video before she left. However, she has handed the place to capable hands.”
Kefee’s colleagues in the industry have also started interceding for her quick recovery. Some of those whose comments were retrieved on the social media are presented below:

Causes of Pre-eclampsia
Pre-eclampsia is a disorder of pregnancy characterized by high blood pressure and large amount of protein in the urine. Though present in majority of cases, protein in the urine need not be present to make the diagnosis of Pre-eclampsia. It involves many body systems and evidence of associated organ dysfunction may be used to make the diagnosis when hypertension is present. This includes the presence of a low blood platelet count (thrombocytopenia), impaired liver function, the development of new kidney dysfunction, fluid accumulation in the lungs (pulmonary edema), and/or new-onset brain or visual disturbances. If left untreated, Pre-eclampsia can develop into eclampsia, the life-threatening occurrence of seizures during pregnancy. Preeclampsia is associated with multiple maternal and fetal adverse effects.
The causes of Pre-eclampsia is likely related to a number of factors. Some of these factors include:
Abnormal placentation (formation and development of the placenta)
* Immunologic factors
* Prior or existing maternal pathology
* Pre-eclampsia is seen more at a higher incidence in individuals with preexisting hypertension, obesity, antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, and those with history of preeclampsia
* Dietary factors, e.g. calcium supplementation in areas where dietary calcium intake is low has been shown to reduce the risk of Pre-eclampsia.
* Environmental factors- air pollution
Pre-eclampsia is diagnosed when a pregnant woman develops:
* Blood pressure
* Evidence of kidney dysfunction (oliguria, elevated creatinine levels)
* Impaired liver function (impaired liver function tests)
Below are some of the currently accepted recommendations.
* Physical activity
