KEFEE’s corpse still in the US –   Her last days

CONTRARY to the tale being circulated, the body of late singer, Irikefe Obareki Don-Momoh is still in the United States of America.  During the week precisely on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, an online platform had published that the body of the Branama queen had touched down at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos aboard Delta Airline, and family members have received her corpse in preparation for her burial later this month.

However, on Saturday, June 21, 2014, ENCOMIUM Weekly’s reliable source revealed that Kefee’s lifeless body is still lying at The Desert Spring Hospital, US morgue.  Our source revealed her death certificate and other relevant documents are still being processed.

“Kefee’s body is still in the US.  The family are still working on the processes to bring her back to Nigeria for burial.  Disregard the report she has been flown to Nigeria,” our source said.

We equally gathered that her family, alongside Nigerian community in the US, is working hard to bring back Kefee to Nigeria and because of the ongoing effort, the programme for her interment is not ready.

We reached out to Kefee’s younger brother, Kelvin on Saturday, June 21, 2014, and he told us that the burial programme is not ready.

“It is not ready, we are still awaiting the corpse from the US.  We will surely let you know as soon as the programme is ready.”

Efforts made to speak with him further was unsuccessful as the phone went off few minutes into our conversation.

Born Irikefe Obareki to Deacon and Mrs. Andrew Obareki in Sapele, Delta State, the late Kefee started singing at 8.  She was in the children’s choir at The Temple of Deliverance Mission Church, Asaba, Delta State.  She later moved on to the adult choir when she clocked 15 and at the age of 18, she was made the choir director.  Her sojourn into the music industry started when she met music producer, Alec Godwin whom she eventually married in 2005.  While the marriage lasted, Kefee and Alec were identified as industry’s most respected couple until 2008, when the marriage collapsed.  Infidelity and domestic violence was labeled as the cause of the marriage crash.  She went under after her marriage collapsed and later resurfaced when she found new love in Star FM radio presenter, Teddy Don Momoh and on Saturday, March 3, 2012, she and Teddy tied the knot secretly in Sapele, Delta State.

Her bid to return to the music scene made her record a new album which was why she shuttled Nigeria and United States.  It was during one of her trips to the US that she reportedly collapsed on a Chicago (Illinois) bound flight on Thursday, May 29, 2014, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing in Los Angeles, California, so she could receive medical attention.  She slipped into coma and was moved to Desert Spring Hospital, Las Vegas, US intensive care unit where she eventually died 15 days later (on Friday, June 13, 2014).

KEFEE’S LAST DAYS

A source who should know revealed that Kefee Don-Momoh had been in the US before she fainted in a Chicago bound flight.  Her mission in the US was to honour some performances she was contracted to do. However, her inter-state travelling while in the US and her workload may have stretched her to the limit.

The Branama Queen, according to our source, may have worked herself to the extreme which caused her breakdown inside the plane after which she slipped into coma but never recovered.

Her UK publicist, Adeline Adebayo attributed Kefee’s death to lungs failure.  It was also a time she just finished the recording of her latest album and shot a new video which was planned for release later this year.
