No further details of her burial programme from her family as our efforts to get her younger brother, Kelvin didn’t yield any positive result. Repeated calls to his mobile phone were not answered. Our text message to him was not replied before we went to press. We also made attempts to get across to her husband, Teddy Don Momoh who is still in the US, his mobile phone couldn’t be reached.

A close friend of the On-Air Personality, however, told ENCOMIUM Weekly that Teddy has been devastated since his wife, Kefee passed on.

“I spoke with him on phone, he couldn’t say much. He just told me his wife has gone to be with the Lord. He was heartbroken when I spoke with him”, our source revealed.

She reportedly collapsed on a Chicago (IIIionis) bound flight on Thursday, May 29, 2014, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing in Los Angeles (California) so she could receive medical attention. And she slipped into coma while colleagues, family and friends prayed for her recovery. She was moved to Desert Spring Hospital, Las Vegas, US intensive care unit where she eventually died. “It is with great sadness but grateful hearts that we announce the passing to glory due to lungs failure of our God’s mouthpiece, chorus leader, daughter, wife, sister, friend, Kefee, Branama Queen. May her beautiful, gentle and precious soul rest in peace.”

HER UNFULFILLED DREAMS

The late songstress had many dreams she couldn’t fulfill till death came calling. She just completed the recording of her new album and also shot a new video in the US. The new recording was meant to shoot her back to the top in the gospel music scene where she belonged. She was also said to be writing a book which is an account of what led to the failure of her first marriage to Alec Godwin. The book didn’t see the light of the day.

HER LIFE AND MUSIC

Kefee was a song writer, a skilled dancer and a talented singer. She was born to Deacon and Mrs. Andrew Obareki in Sapele, Delta State. She started singing at eight in the children’s choir at The Temple of Deliverance Mission Church in Asaba Delta state. She moved on to the adult choir when she was 15, and at age 18 she was made the choir director.

Under her, the church choir released a couple of songs where she took lead vocals and also backup. Kefee studied Public Administration at the University of Benin, Edo State. While in school, she wrote well over 20 songs and had a greater passion for music. In 2000, she playfully composed and released an album entitled TRIP with some friends. The effort was a huge success and got them shows alongside artistes like Plantashun Boys and a long list of others.

The song gained recognition just as the video was the talk of the town in Benin (Edo State). Her friends with whom she recorded TRIP parted after school but Kefee did not. In December 2003, she signed on with Alec Music and released her first solo album as a female artiste. Branama was a huge success, she emerged the hottest Nigerian female artiste and won a number of awards. Kefee’s fan base increased all over Africa and also on the international scene. She was invited to perform in London (the United Kingdom) and other parts of Europe and America.

Kefee’s first album was a success which had her fans eagerly waiting for her second album entitled, Branama 2. This new album was just as superb as her first and also got her the respect of other well known Nigerian artiste who worked with her for the album.

The release of her latest effort titled A Piece of Me in January 2009, marked a new era in the life and career of one of Africa’s most prolific music talents. A Piece of Me is notable for its infusion of modern afro pop, RnB, classic and traditional African music. She was the founder, CEO of Branama Afrique, an entertainment outfit she established in 2007. The company is responsible for the production, promotion and the entire packaging of Kefee’s intellectual works. Her eatery business Branama Kitchen in Mende, Maryland, Lagos, is also one of the ventures that kept the singer busy.

HER CRASHED MARRIAGE AND NEW LOVE

At the time Kefee was in the church choir, her talent boomed under the tutelage of music producer, Alec Godwin. Both later fell in love and moved to Lagos. They were married in 2005 and began life as a couple. They became one of entertainment industry’s celebrated couples and continued to flourish.

In 2008, the once celebrated couple fell apart, cracks began to appear on the wall and rumours of infidelity and domestic violence pervaded the air. They were divorced after both had exposed their dirty secrets in public, Kefee considered her first marriage break up a chapter in her life and moved on.

She found love again in the arms of Star FM radio presenter, Teddy Don-Momoh and secretly they tied the knot on Saturday, March 3, 2012 in Sapele Delta state.
