Shivers were sent down the spines of locals after a kilometre-long, eight-metre-deep crack appeared in a remote area of farmland in Hermosillo, north-west Mexico.
A video footage of the crack was captured by Hermosillo Desde El Cielo, and was shot by a drone flying along the length of the trench, which is up to five metres (16ft) across.
Geological investigations are under way into the cause of the crack, according to Mexico’s El Imparcial newspaper.
