Kleenrite boss, Jide Onakoya bemoans govt’s nonchalance to entrepreneurship

KLEENRITE boss, Jide Onakoya spoke to ENCOMIUM Weekly about how to survive as an entrepreneur in Nigeria, challenges and the pains and gains of his dry cleaning business.

How will you describe business since inception?

Business has been great to the glory of God.  It’s been almost two years since we started and we are waxing strong.

What has the challenges been so far?

The major challenge has been lack of power, that’s the main obstacle to businesses thriving in this economy.  The amount of money spent on fuelling our generators is ridiculous.  I would implore the government to find a lasting solution to this.  Apart from the poor power supply, government levies on new businesses can be very discouraging. One has to be really determined to make it in this terrain.

How were you able to overcome the challenges?

I have been able to overcome these challenges by ensuring a solid plan B is on ground.  For instance, with regards to power supply, using an inverter is something I have now embraced. One has to have a dogged spirit to make it in this country.

What are the pains and gains of your kind of business?

The number one gain would have to be the wonderful customers I have been privileged to come across in the past two years.  The high turnover of employees would be the main pain in this business.

We have so many dry cleaners around now, what’s your unique selling point?

Our unique selling point is that we ensure our customers leave satisfied.  Our ultimate goal is customer satisfaction and we strive for it at all cost.

What measures have you taken to sustain your business despite the economic condition?

Strategising and ensuring one remains competitive in the market are some of the ways we have been able to sustain this business.

How do you deal with unsatisfied customers?

In the rare case when we have an unsatisfied customer, besides apologizing to the customer.  We offer free services on the next transaction to retain our valuable clientele.

What are your future aspirations for the business?

We aspire to become a household name in the dry cleaning and cleaning business.  Presently, we are working on expanding other arms of the business such as the after party clean-up as well as the industrial and home cleaning services.
