Kwara teachers smile as N1.2 billion is released for salaries

The decision of the Kwara State Government on Monday, July 25, 2016, to  disburse N1.2 billion to pay her teachers’ salaries is being applauded by all and sundry.

The Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed made this announcement when he met with local government chairmen, treasurers, labour leaders and other top government officials. Records have it that N706, 131, 293.13 was released in June, 2016 before the government’s decision to add an additional N160 million to cover up for the inadequacies of local government councils to pay all the workers their complete salaries.

According to Governor Ahmed: “Kwara State Government is to augment the July federal allocation to local government councils in the state with N160 million to ensure that teachers and all other local government workers are paid their full salaries for the month”

The State governor frowning at alleged irregular mass recruitment within the state Teaching Service Commission, appointed a five-man panel of enquiry to fight the menace.
