Ladies on why they rock natural hair

An increasing number of African women, including film and music stars have embraced the natural hair status. From curly to kinky hair, these women rock their hair in a way that will want you to go natural.

Nigerian women rock their natural hair for different reasons. Some say it is in vogue, some say it is healthier while some are afraid of the effect of dangerous chemicals in some relaxers.

The ladies ENCOMIUM Weekly spoke to on this explained why they preferred rocking natural hair….

OLUFUNKE WILLIAMS

Why do you rock your natural hair?

I started staying off relaxers years back because of how badly it turns my scalp so I used to relax my hair just once or twice a year. So, when the craze of natural hair started, I thought about it and I said to myself, ‘why not if not’ since my hair is almost always due.

Would you say it is expensive maintaining natural hair?

I think the cost of maintaining natural hair is equal to relaxed hair because the money I saved from not buying relaxer kits, I now have to spend on conditioners and other products to soften my hair.

Do you feel more beautiful with your natural hair and why?

Either way I am still beautiful but I feel far healthier because the harmful chemicals contained in the relaxer doesn’t get into my body and my scalp is free from burns.

MAYOWA WILLIAMS

Why do you rock your natural hair?

I rock my natural hair because of the trauma I go through thinking of the next hair style to do after taking off one and looking for a good salon

Would you say it is expensive maintaining natural hair?

It is not expensive. With shea butter, coconut oil and some natural products like avocado, quality shampoo and leave-in conditioner which is not up to N5,000, I am good to go.

Do you feel more beautiful with your natural hair and why?

Not only do I feel beautiful, I feel free. I run water through my hair, dry, style and I am good to go.
