Lagos APC loses seven House of Reps seats to PDP and Accord Party

FOR the first time in the 16 year history of democracy in Nigeria, the progressives  in Lagos suffered a major loss in the National Assembly election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state which has been occupying more than 90 per cent of the seats lost seven out of the 24 seats available for the state in the House of Representatives.

The party lost seven of the seats to its arch rival, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and one to Accord Party, a relatively unknown party in the state.

The only seat won by Accord Party is Mushin Federal Constituency 1 which was won by Hon. Abayomi Dauda Kako-Are, who is the incumbent lawmaker.

Hon. Kako-Are was a member of APC until the primary election of the party in December 2014, when he lost to Taofeek Adeyemi Alli, the immediate chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA in the primary election.  He decamped to Accord Party, where he contested for the same seat and defeated his closest rival, Taofeek Adeyemi Alli of APC.

The seven seats won by PDP were in Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government, Ojo Local Government, Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Surulere Local Government and two in Oshodi/Isolo Local Government areas.

The Ajeromi/Ifelodun Federal Constituency seat was won by Barr. (Mrs.) Rita Orji of PDP.  She defeated the incumbent, Hon. Taiwo Oyewole Adenekan of APC.

In Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency II, it was Chinedu Tony Nwulu of PDP that won.  He also defeated the incumbent, Hon. Hakeem Abiodun Muniru of APC. And in Oshodi\Isolo Federal Constituency I, Hon. Mutiu Shadimu won, beating Hon. Timothy Olumuyiwa Olubintan of APC.

In Surulere Federal Constituency II, it was Olatunji Soyinka of PDP that defeated Hon. Hakeem Bamgboola of APC.

In Ojo Federal Constituency, Mr. Tajudeen Obasa of PDP, defeated Hon. Aremu Durosimi of APC, while in Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency, Mr. Egoh Emmma Oghene of PDP defeated Hon. Ganiyu Tunji Olukolu of APC, who had been in the House of Representatives for two terms.

One common feature of this defeat is that the resident of these LG areas are predominantly non-Yoruba mostly Igbo, who voted massively for PDP.

However, All Progressives Congress (APC) won all the three senatorial seats in the state.  This means Senator Oluremi Tinubu (Lagos Central), Senator Gbenga Ashafa (Lagos East) and Hon. Olamilekan Adeola (Lagos West) won their seats.
