Lagos Govt. takes custody of abandoned baby boy at State secretariat

The Lagos State Government on Friday took custody of a baby boy that was abandoned by unknown persons at a car park beside the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre at the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa.

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Lateef Ibirogba, stated that the baby boy was discovered laid on the bare floor at around 2pm by passersby who immediately called the attention of State officials of the Press Centre to the incident.

The officials of the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) were immediately contacted and dispatched three female officials to the location where the boy laid and they subsequently took him to the Ministry’s headquarters at the Secretariat.

The director of Child Development in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs Alaba Fadairo who later received the baby said he appears to be afflicted with Down syndrome but would be adequately catered for by the State Government.

She advised against child abandonment, saying it is an ungodly act because there are several people who are dire need of fruits of the womb and that those who have them must always take good care of them.
