Lagos Police Command assures of rescuing kidnapped Iba monarch

-Foils attempt by hoodlums to invade another community

The Lagos State Police Command has reassured the public that the kidnapped Iba monarch, Oba Yushau Goriola Oseni will soon be rescued and reunited with his family.

Speaking with ENCOMIUM Weekly on Saturday, July 23, 2016, via its spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmus, the command maintained, “Rescue mission in progress. We’re optimistic that the monarch will be reunited with his family soon.”

The first class traditional ruler was abducted by suspected militants from the Niger Delta region on Saturday, July 16, 2016.

The hoodlums reportedly gained access to the Oniba’s palace through the waterways, shot his security guard dead, wounded his wife before escaping with the monarch through the waterways.

ENCOMIUM Weekly learnt, the situation has thrown the whole community and the family of the hoodlums king into tension. The situation was said to have been compounded with the N500 million ransom reportedly demanded by the kidnappers.

However, according to the Police Public Relations Officers (PPRO), SP Dolapo Badmus, the command has foiled the attempt by the suspected militants, who were said to be on rampage, to invade and unlash terror on another community, Fatoki in Igando, Alimosho area of Lagos state.

The PPRO said in a statement forwarded to ENCOMIUM Weekly, on Saturday, July 23, 2016, that the command mobilized its men to the area soon as it was alerted by the public that the hoodlums have invaded the community through waterways.

“At about 21:30 hours of 22/07/2016, the members of the public alerted the police that a group of people suspected to be militants have invaded the community through waterways, shooting sporadically.

“Policemen were quickly mobilized to the scene of the incident to engage the militants.

“However superior fire power of the policemen and subsequent bullet wounds made the hoodlums abandon their mission, retreated and escaped through Totowu waterways.

“During the gun battle, however, a member of the police team, an inspector was hit by bullet and a civilian was also shot while they were retreating.

“The two victims are receiving treatment and recuperating in the hospital while efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects.

“The command hereby implores members of the public and hospitals to report to the nearest police station anyone noticed with gunshot injury as it reiterates its commitment to ensuring safety of lives and property in the state.

“Meanwhile, residents, especially those close to waterways are advised to promptly alert the police of any suspicious movement in and around their community,” the statement read.
