The Lagos State government has resumed the sales of its popular rice called Lake Rice – an abbreviation of Lagos and Kebbi being joint venture between Lagos State government and Kebbi State government.
The rice which was officially launched by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and his Kebbi counterpart Alhaji Baguda on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, and started selling to the public from different centres in the state immediately, was suspended sometime in February 2017, when it was discovered that some local government officials were hoarding the rice and later selling them to market women who in turn were selling them at exorbitant prices.
The resumption of sale started on Thursday, April 6, 2017. The selling is, however, restricted to Lagos State Agricultural Development Authority (LSADA), office Agege only.
All government ministries, departments and agencies, including local governments, now go through the governor’s office to book and pay for their allocation before going to LSADA to collect them. Lagosians are also allowed to buy from the place too.
encomium.ng was at LSADA on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 to buy and see how the sales was going on.
To buy from the place, you need to queue up, pay with your ATM card on POS machine. You will now be issued with a receipt with which you will go to the warehouse to collect the number you ordered.
There were three sizes of bags that were available. The 50kg which goes for N12,000, 25kg for N6,000 and 10kg for N2,500.
We were told that people could only buy the 10kg because they have run out of stock for the 25kg bags and that the 50kg bags that were available in the store was reserved for Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO). People were, however, allowed to buy up to five 10kg bags.
