Lagos State Commissioner of Police pledges partnership with COSON to end piracy

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi has pledged that the police command will partner with Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) to put an end to the theft and infringement of intellectual property in Nigeria.

This pledge was made on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, when a delegation led by the COSON Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji paid a visit to the Commissioner in his Ikeja office.

While addressing the Commissioner, Chief Okoroji stated that the Board and members of COSON are proud of the security provided by officers and men of the Lagos State Police command all through the 8 big events of the just concluded COSON Week. He noted that the temperament, efficiency and passion displayed by the officers during each event of the COSON Week were top notch. The COSON Chairman also highlighted the fact that not for once during the weeklong event did any Police officer arrive late to the venue, neither was there any report of a breakdown of law and order anywhere, stating that their behaviour was world class.

According to the COSON Chairman, ‘‘When the Police do not perform as expected, we often criticize them. We should also be ready to pat them on the back when they’ve done a good job. During the COSON Week, the Police in Lagos did a fantastic job’’.

Receiving the delegation, CP Edgal noted that the Nigeria Police means different things to different people, but the Police Force will continue to partner more closely with people so that the people can understand the Police a lot more.

The CP further encouraged COSON to continue in its fight for creators and owners of Intellectual Property, while also noting that the Police will form a partnership with COSON to identify the major copyright infringers within the state and ensure that they no longer have a free reign. He thanked the COSON team for the visit and appreciation of the efforts put up by his men.

Accompanying the Chairman on the visit were two other members of the COSON Board, the rub a dub maestro, Ras Kimono and Queen of Love, Azeezat Allen.

Also on the team were COSON’s General Manager, Chinedu Chukwuji, COSON’s Head of Finance, Bernice Eriemeghe, COSON’s Head of New Media, Tolu Balogun, COSON’s General Counsel, Simi Wash-pam and COSON’s Operations Executive, Deborah Animashaun.
