Lagosians applaud Governor Ambode on his six months Eko Rice project

In line with ensuring that the memorandum of understanding between Lagos and Kebbi state on rice cultivation materializes, on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode inspected the Imota Rice Processing Factory in Ikorodu, Lagos state. Ambode was briefed on the present production capability of the rice mill and its inadequacies.

ENCOMIUM Weekly on Wednesday, Apirl 13, 2016, spoke to people about their views if production of rice in Lagos will be successful in the next six months…

‘We are going back to our roots’ – MRS. MISTURAH ENILOLOBO

What is your take on Governor Ambode producing rice in Lagos in six months?

It is going to be very lovely, that means we are going back to our roots. The nation was surviving with agriculture before we discovered oil, that means we are starting with something great. This will be a great development in Lagos and for Nigeria.

Do you think it will work?

Yes, it will.

Why?

It will work because the government is involved in it and if Governor Ambode can still get the support of the federal government it will further trigger the success of the project. I think it will work out fine considering the fact that it is starting in the commercial centre of the nation.

‘It is an excellent idea’ – MISS KUDIJAT ADERODU

What is your take on Governor Ambode producing rice in Lagos in six months?

It is an excellent idea. It is good if he can continue to work on it because he was the person that stopped importation of rice and this development will help in the growth of our agriculture sector. It’s a very good idea if he will work on it and allow it come to pass.

Do you think it will work?

Yes.

Why?

Because if he wants it to work, it will. This project will help revive our falling economy that we can even transact business outside the country. So, I will employ Governor Ambode to not just say it but he should work on it and bring results.

‘It is even a medium of employment’ – MR. OLAYIWOLA

What is your take on Governor Ambode producing rice in Lagos in six months?

It is a good thing if the government is focused and will make it come to pass. At least that will raise our hope on being an independent country because people have written Nigeria off when it comes to importation of goods and the only rice we have is Abakaliki rice and ofada rice. But with this new development, it will help out local production because the highest volume of rice in Nigeria are imported rice but this plan will help our local production and boost our economy.

Do you think this plan will work?

Yes, it will.

Why?

Ambode needs a lot of financial support and encouragement from federal government. We don’t import rice from other countries again so if the government will support Ambode and put all seriousness into this project, it will work very well. Nigerians will smile once again and it is even a medium of employment.

‘It will help boost our economy’ -MR. AKPAN

What is your take on Governor Ambode producing rice in Lagos in six months?

I feel good about it, but they should not promise and fail as they have been doing since Buhari became president. If Governor Ambode knows that if he is going to raise our hope and dash it on the floor, he should not bother deceiving us. He should do what he knows that will favour Nigerians.

Do you think it will work?

Yes, it would work.

Why?

If Governor Ambode is determined, it will work. It will help boost our economy and also create employment.

‘It is a great thing’ -MR. BASIL

What is your take on Governor Ambode producing rice in Lagos in six months?

It is a great thing but I will not rejoice now until I see the rice made in Lagos and I eat it. That is when I will jubilate and congratulate him because he might want to deceive us like our President Buhari is doing. I will not say anything till I see it come to pass.

Do you think it will work?

It might work and might not.

Why?

If Ambode wants it to work, it will and if he doesn’t, it will not. But all I will say is if he knows what is good for Nigerians, he should do it. Our agriculture sector will be revived and when other states see that rice is made in Lagos, it will be a competition amongst other governors and they will want to produce theirs.

‘He should also collaborate with other states’ -MISS CHIOMA OBI

What is your take on Governor Ambode producing rice in Lagos in six months?

It is good but he should show us the rice first and stop telling us campaign stories. I hope the rice sack will not be carrying his name when it is finally out.

Do you think it will work?

Yes, it will.

Why?

If the federal government will give him all the support he wants. He should also collaborate with other states if possible so production will be very high.

‘This is a wonderful project’ -MR. CHRISTIAN ALOZIE

What is your take on Governor Ambode producing rice in Lagos in six months?

Governor Ambode is really working. This is a wonderful project he has embarked on. This will also generate employment and will be of immense benefit to the masses. This development has brought great joy to my heart.

Do you think this project would work?

Yes, it will work.

Why?

The government will support him and people in the agriculture sector are ready to work. I can’t wait to taste the Lagos made rice.

‘It will foster inter-state commerce and dependency’ -TITUS AKINBINU

What is your take on Governor Ambode producing rice in Lagos in six months?

This is a great stride. Can another state invest massively in cultivating rice farm and partner Lagos state to process the bags? This development will generate internal revenue that will help the economy. All the states cannot have it all. If Kebbi is doing the planting and Lagos is doing the bagging and selling, other states can invest in Lagos too and this will foster inter-state commerce and dependency.

Do you think it will work?

Yes, it will.

Why?

If all the necessary infrastructure are put in place, and with good management and focused minds, it will turn out excellent.

‘It is achievable’ -MR. TUNDE AKINOLA

What is your take on Governor Ambode producing rice in Lagos in six months?

It is a nice idea if it’s not just word of mouth, he will end up not implementing it.  For me, it’s a very nice idea.

Do you think it will work?

Yes, it will work.

Why?

It will be achievable if he puts all machineries in motion and also set up a committee with the right people on board. He should also do a thorough research and involvement of the stakeholders in the project. The government should not be left out. If they can also pay serious attention to these, then there will be hope for Nigeria once again. Our agriculture sector is making sense and has the hope of coming alive.

‘It is a good thing’ -MRS. DORIS EMMANUEL

What is your take on Governor Ambode producing rice in Lagos in six months?

It is a good thing. Governor Ambode is really working hard to make Lagos a better place. He started with Light up Lagos and now agriculture. I really commend him for this.

Do you think it will work?

Yes, it will and no it will not.

Why?

The federal government is full of unserious people. Anambra and Ebonyi states have been producing rice since last year and the federal government cannot fund them. Governor Ambode needs enough money to fund this project for it to work well. If the government will give him that support, then it will be a great success.

‘It is a good step’ -MR. JEGEDE

What is your take on Governor Ambode producing rice in Lagos in six months?

It is a good step and I pray Governor Ambode will be able to sustain this project.

Do you think it will work?

Yes, it will work.

Why?

With the aid of government it will be a great success. After all, other states like Ebonyi, Anambra and Edo are producing, why won’t Lagos not be a success. It will work well in Lagos.

‘It will help our economy’ -MR. MORIS

What is your take on Governor Ambode producing rice in Lagos in six months?

It is a very brilliant idea. Governor Ambode should be given best governor of the year award.

Do you think it will work?

Yes, it will.

Why?

With good implementation and good infrastructure, it will work well. The federal government support will allow him accomplish it. Lagos is a commercial area so there will be great sales and production. It will help our economy.
