Lagosians back call by Lagos lawmaker to prosecute fake employment advertisers

Lagosians have thrown their weight behind the call by a Lagos lawmaker that those behind the fake job vacancy posters that are always pasted across the state to defraud job seekers should be arrested and prosecuted in order to serve as deterrents to others who may also want to go into the dubious act. The lawmaker, representing Epe 1 constituency, Hon. Biodun Tobun raised the motion at the floor of the house a couple of days back and was unanimously adopted. The house has since called on the state governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode to direct the state police command and Director of Security Services (DSS) to clamp down on the perpetrators of the evil act so that the state can curb their criminal activities in order to save unsuspecting job seekers from falling victims of the dangerous circumstances, which is now very rampant in the state.

The move has, however, been warmly received by a lot of Lagosians and they have also joined the lawmakers in calling on the state governor to act fast on the issue. Those encomium.ng spoke to also keyed into the call and urged the security operatives that will handle the matter to discharge their duty with all sense of dignity.

According to Suraju Akinwola, “I fully support the idea and  I pray the police and other security agents that will be assigned the role of going after the fake employment generators will not be working for themselves at the end of the day. We all know what some of our so-called security men are. Before we know it, they will turn the whole thing into a money-making venture for themselves by collecting bribe from those they’re supposed to arrest. So, in that respect, I will advise Governor Ambode to set up a Task Force that  will be fully monitored in order to avoid going back to square one.”

Another Lagosian, Cecilia Ibe also lent her voice in support of the clamour, describing it as a step in the right direction.

“That will be very nice if the government can take a drastic action on those fake employment advertisers. They have duped a lot of people on that. They are aware of the fact that many graduates are jobless. So, they capitalise on that and continue pasting fake job vacancy posters almost everywhere in the state. We only pray it’s taken as a serious offence now that the house has moved against it.”

Sunday Udom, a graduate of sociology from University of Benin (UNIBEN) who was once a victim of the job scam also lauded the lawmakers’ step, saying, “I love the move by Lagos lawmakers on all these fraudulent job advertisers. I was once a victim of their fraudulent practice. After collecting N10,000 registration fee, they couldn’t be reached again. Many of us fell victims then. The law against that evil practice should be enacted even by the National Assembly, not only in Lagos. They operate almost every city across the country.”
