Lamboginny dumps Sax Records for Surge Entertainment

-Duets with a mystery rapper, Clayy in Broken

Dancehall musician and NDLEA Ambassador, Yinka Lawanson, famously known as Lamboginny has dumped his former label, Sax Records. He has, since, joined Surge Entertainment in a multi-million naira deal, where he’s currently working with label-mate, a mystery rapper Clayy (that’s only known by Lamboginny) in a new project, Broken song. In an exclusive interview with ENCOMIUM Weekly held on Saturday, October 25, 2014, Say-No-To-Crime crooner spoke about his new project and why he left Sax Records, among other mind-boggling issues…

You just released a new video, Broken, with a label-mate rapper, Clayy. What inspired the song?

Broken song is an initiative of Lamboginny and Clayy and we got inspired by happenings in the society. Too many children suffering. This is my first video with Clayy under Surge Entertainment. The video was directed by Clarence Peters.

Lamboginny-3Tell us more about Broken Project?

It’s all about using our music to reach out to the helpless and poor. I am happy also giving them hope for a better life. We are also running a project called The Living which is humanitarian. We have given out scholarships to indigent children and also to kids with surgery conditions. It’s all about love. As part of the Broken Project, I and my team will be organizing school visits, inter school competitions and scholarship, among others.

Why are you so passionate about humanitarian projects?

It is just God and sometimes I feel it is my purpose in the world. So, I give my best to see the poor smile.

In your four years of community development, can you relate your experience(s)?

It has been a lot. From prison projects to helping kids with surgery problems and even lending our voices to the helpless through music. But, the most important for me is to share love with those that really need it.

You’ve been to places including prisons to sensitize people. You would have seen good and terrible things and at the same time, heard people’s stories. Which is most emotional to you?

The prison is more emotional for me and I will never stop showing love to them till I die. Some are locked up because they were at the wrong place hawking or drinking. I am glad that I have used my time to get some of them out and the ones I have not been able to get out, myself and some of my colleagues in the industry have reached out to the authority through our music and kind words.

Being an ambassador, what are the benefits? Does it come with money, because many people believe by now, you should be a rich young man?

None of the organizations  has ever paid me, but that never stops me from performing my duties as an ambassador and God has been great to me.

Let’s talk about your career? Apart from Broken, What else are you working on?

The Lamboginny & Clayy project is a full album coming in 2015, but Broken is the first single from the album. For now, we are recording songs and shooting videos. It will be difficult to separate the humanitarian side from the music aspect, and that is why we have created a team that advises on what to be done and what not to be done. The rest of the year will be really intense for us, and we are really looking forward to that .

When did you join Surge Entertainment because you were formally with Sax Records?

Surge ENT has always been a part of me since 2008 but this year we became officially united.

Why did you leave Sax?

My contract was over and we moved on but we are still great friends.

Tell us more about your new record label and the deal you have?

I have a four years deal with Surge, I pray for unity and wisdom till the end and I hope to renew even after four years. I love my team. God bless Surge Entertainment.
