Police rule Ronke Shonde’s death as murder

… Lekan will be arraigned tomorrow – PPRO
The Lagos Police Command led by CP Fatal Owoseni is preparing a murder charge against Lekan Shonde, the 51 year old dock worker suspected to have killed his wife of 8 years and mother of his two children (Ronke) in the night of Thursday, May 5, 2016.

The suspect is likely to be arraigned at a court in Ebute Metta (Yaba, Lagos) tomorrow, Friday, May 20.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmus confirmed the development to several news media. She told ThisDay at 8:09 pm on Thursday, May 19, that Lekan Shonde would be arraigned for murder.

His arraignment follows the receipt of the autopsy report by the police, which reportedly stated the cause of death of the 36 year old former banker as acute respiratory distress syndrome, bruises and water in the head. On the strength of the autopsy report, the police believe that Lekan, who was on the run for three days and only surrendered after he was persuaded by his friends on Monday, May 9, has a case to answer.

He has been in detention at Panti, the state’s centre for homicide. And last week, he accompanied the police to the 3, Tiemo Crescent, Egbeda flat where his wife died.

Family members, friends and neighbors have made counter claims about the character and temperament of Lekan Shonde, but insiders maintained he beat his wife recklessly, was intensely jealous and insecure and harassed her male friends.

His wife was accused of dating her colleague, Kayode Eyitayo Oluokun who allegedly spent four days in the same room with her for an Abuja assignment.

Many of Lekan’s accounts  about the tragedy and his marriage were stupefying and contradictory. And he was already found guilty by the court of public opinion.

But his long trial will begin at a high court. And he would have his day, as they say.
