Lekki Robbery Update: Sarah Ibikunle laid to rest

THE sorrow inflicted on the family of late teenage fish hawker, Sarah Ibikunle who was killed by rampaging armed robbers on Thursday, March 12, 2015, will be very difficult to heal as they are still in deep mourning.

ENCOMIUM Weekly visited the family residence at Babalola Village, an Ilaje community, Lekki, Lagos, on Friday, March 20, 2015, again to confirm details about Sarah’s burial plan and other issues revolving around the family’s agony of losing their beloved daughter.

In a chat with ENCOMIUM Weekly, the family spokesperson, Mr. Tobi Ibikunle, who is also an uncle to the deceased narrated their ordeal in collecting Sarah’s corpse from Mainland Hospital, Yaba mortuary where it was deposited.

We also went to the deceased’s school again, where we spoke to two of her classmates and some of her colleagues and Assistant Head Teacher of the school, Mrs. Hope Nwabunor.  They all expressed sadness on the tragic incident, calling on the government to assist the family.

However, ENCOMIUM Weekly contacted the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Kenneth Nwosu on Saturday, March 21, 2015 on the development concerning the incident and the identities of the police officers who died in the Thursday, March 12, 2015 robbery attack, he said, “We are still investigating the matter, but we’re sure we will get the robbers arrested soon.  But concerning the identities of the affected police officers, we can’t disclose them to you now.  Their bodies are still in the mortuary.  We will surely get back to you of any other information concerning that.”

We also spoke to FCMB spokesperson, Mr. Louis Ibe in a bid to ascertain what the bank actually lost to the unfortunate incident, he reacted, “I can’t comment specifically on that.  But whatever amount the bank might have lost to the robbery attack, I assure you that it’s covered by insurance.  The bank is insured.  So, there is nothing to fear about.”

On Thursday, March 12, 2015, some bandits dressed in military outfits stormed Admiralty Way via the waterways, in a speed boat, and unleashed terror in the area, killing three policemen and a young female fish seller, Sarah Ibikunle.  The tragic death cut the dream of the 15 year-old primary school pupil of Itedo Community Primary School, Itedo, Lekki, Lagos, of becoming a lawyer.
