Losing sense of smell is first sign of Alzheimer -Report

New reports revealed that losing one’s sense of smell is the first sign of Alzheimer.

Alzheimer is a common form of dementia, believed to be caused by changes in the brain usually beginning in late middle age, characterized by memory lapses, emotional instability and progressive loss of mental ability.

In a study at Massachusetts General Hospital, USA, it was found that 183 patients with early sign of Alzheimer had lost their sense of smell.

According to  lead investigator, Dr. Mark Albers, “There is increasing evidence that the neuro-degeneration behind Alzheimer’s disease starts at least 10 years before the onset of memory symptoms.

“A hampered sense of smell caused by the disease could be detected a decade before patients start becoming forgetful.”

After a series of research, Dr. Albers and his research team summed up that early diagnosis and intervention are likely to produce the most useful healing process for Alzheimer disease.
