Low patronage hits restaurants, fun spots first week of Ramadan

Since the compulsory fasting month (RAMADAN) for Muslims commenced, many restaurant and fun spot owners have been redundant, especially during the day as they have lost most of their customers to the holy month.

Speaking with encomium.ng on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, a manager in one of the spots in Abule Egba area of Lagos, Mr. Bernard, confirmed the discouraging experience. He added that profit margin is very low at the moment due to the ongoing fast.

“We’re just trying to cope now. The sale, generally, has dropped drastically now whether in day or night due to Ramadan fasting. Whether or not you like it, you will be affected as a restaurant owner. There is usually low patronage every year during the season. People hardly come in groups to drink or eat. Apart from the country’s poor economic situation that has paralysed the business, the fasting has also taken its toll on it. We’re just redundant. But soon as the fasting ends, the business will pick up again.”

Our visit to few other places in Lagos revealed that it was all a dull atmosphere for hospitality business, most especially during the day as influx of revellers has reduced to barest minimum in most hitherto bubbling joints.
