Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has described the death of Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, Dan Masani, Kano, as a big blow to the nation.
The governor, while mourning the passing away of the former first Republic Minister and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in the second Republic, said in a statement, that he died at a time when his fatherly counsel was needed to chart a path out of the nation’s ethnic and tribal challenges.
Amosun said the late elder statesman was an icon of unity and a detribalised Nigerian, whose role, as one of the founding founders of the nation, laid the foundation that has kept the peoples united till date, despite our cultural diversity.
“All through his sojourn in the UN as well as an appointed and elected public officer in Nigeria, the late Alhaji Maitama Sule never hid his passion for a united people. He preached love, peace and unity and these were the ideals he lived for till his death.
“Today, we are not mourning, but celebrating a fulfilled life of an exceptional Nigerian, who lived and led by example, with his disciplined, descent, corrupt-free and modest lifestyle”, he added.
The governor also acknowledged the oratory prowess of the late diplomat, which according to him, was laced with words of wisdom and fountain of knowledge, where his massive admirers and followers drank from.
He urged the government and people of Kano state to take solace in the fact that their son left his mark on the sands of time globally.
The governor prayed God to grant his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
