Encomium
TWO events in recent times have shown that the popular on-air personality (OAP), Toke Makinwa and her estranged husband may be on the road to reconciliation if they have not already reconciled.
The first event was a message posted on Instagram by Maje Ayida to Toke Makinwa on her 30th birthday on Sunday, November 1, 2015.
The message read thus, “Happy birthday to my stunning wife, you are such an incredible woman. I remember when you started on radio, you were a bag of nerves, working the night shift. I stopped off, to pick up a pizza as they closed and drove up to the station. The roads were empty and I listened to you as I drove. You were new on the job, but the light in you was shining bright, the same light that burns today. I remember coming on air as a secret guest and marvelled on how easy you made it seem. You were born for this. You are so blessed, I love you @tokemakinwa have a spectacular day.”
Again, on the same day, Sunday, November 1, 2015, Maje posted a picture of himself giving a passionate kiss to Toke and he wrote underneath, “You may not remember this picture, but there is more to it than just a kiss. This was at my first ever event for Eden. We were launching the Puma store at The Palms. I was basically freaking out the entire time, worried about the event. We had the Minister of Sports come officially to open the store. This kind of pressure was new to me. I looked calm but inside I was a mess. Then, you showed up, and suddenly nothing else mattered. You brought peace to me that evening that could only be from God #blessed #happybirthday.”
If all these sweet nothings by Maje was to woo Toke back to his life, what happened on Sunday, December 6, 2015, took many by surprise and gave all the impression that the two love torn couple are back together again. The event was at the Future Awards Africa at Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, and the Corporate Elite event where they were seen sitting together as a couple.
Though at the Corporate Elite event, they arrived at different times, they were later seen sitting together. They even danced together at the event during the Jagged Edge’s romantic and emotion moving performance.
These events are certainly evidence that the on and off couple are back together again.
Their recent break-up was in July 2015, when news broke out that one Anita Solomon, who Maje has been double dating alongside Toke, for eight years, was pregnant and had been flown abroad for delivery.
The story broke just 18 months after the secret registry wedding of Toke and Maje. Though Toke did not confirm nor deny the pregnancy tale trailing her husband, what she wrote on her Vlog that week was enough to confirm the tale.
These are some of the things Toke said then, “The amount of emails I have received from women across the world going through difficult situations is heartbreaking. Thank you all for sharing. In a world where the popular belief out there is that women hate each other, women can’t stand each other, etc. I have gotten emails/calls from women sharing their own personal pain and that is courageous.”
Another one she wrote that period read thus, “May God heal every broken heart out there, may his light give you the courage to begin to love yourself. It is tough being a woman, the pressure is real. You don’t have to be a victim, you can rise above it all. Do not let society tell you otherwise. Be bold, be strong. Trust God’s purpose for your life and keep shining. And yes, to all the people asking, there is a Vlog this week.”
If there was anything that confirmed the pregnancy tale of Anita Solomon to Toke’s husband, it was Maje Ayida’s public apology on his Instagram posted few days after the story broke out. He wrote inter alia, “I am writing to express my sincerest apologies to my wife. I was wrong, it is indefensible and I am sorry.
“I deeply regret what my wife and my family have had to endure. My behavior has caused a lot of anguish to everyone. Though this matter has been very public in nature, it is a private issue and I would appreciate the opportunity to face it privately.
“I love my wife and will make every effort to make things right.”
Could the love notes to his estranged wife during her birthday and their appearances together at two events in a week be the result of efforts made by Maje to put things right?
Has Toke Makinwa taken him back again? Has she forgiven him?
A reliable source close to the couple told ENCOMIUM Weekly that despite their public show, the couple are still living separately.
“Toke is still living somewhere in Lekki, Lagos, away from her husband,” the source said.
However, when we called Toke Makinwa twice, she switched off her phone as soon as she heard the reason why we are calling her.
Maje Ayida too did not respond to our text messages and call.
