Mimiko leaves LP, returns to PDP

Ondo state governor, Dr. Oluesgun Mimiko, yesterday (October 2) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, formally defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the party left in the run up to the 2007 general elections – the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Defecting along with him were members of his state’s House of Assembly, his cabinet members and two National Assembly members. His followers also followed suit in the mass defection.

At the ceremony presided over the the Vice-president, Namadi Sambo, he said: “I, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, following extensive consultations across the land, today finally announce the decision of members of the National Assembly from the LP in Ondo State, members of the LP in the state, members of the LP in the state House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council and indeed all those who share our aspirations, to join the PDP”.
