Minister for Environment, Laurentia Laraba-Mallam, flags off seminar on alternative energy potentials and carbon footprint in Nigeria

Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, will play host to distinguished university dons and experts in the environmental/energy sector, drawn from across the globe when they gather at Enville Institute Annual Seminar to discuss issue of utmost importance in the life of Nigerians as the country celebrates her 54th Independence anniversary.

The event which the Honourable Minister for the Environment Mrs. Lawrencia Laraba-Mallam, will be the Special Guest of Honour, takes place on Thursday, October 9, 2014. It will be chaired by the distinguished Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, OFR, the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos and the current V.C of Federal University, Udufu Alike, Ikwo, Ebonyi State.

According to the Chairman of Enville Institute of Environmental and Safety Management, distinguished Professor Awele Maduemezia, the theme of the seminar is: Alternative Energy Potentials and Carbon Footprint in Nigeria. He is of the belief that brainstorming at the seminar will yield positive challenges in the discovery of suitable and sustainable alternative energy resources which should also address the challenges of global warming.

The guest speaker is the eminent distinguished Professor of Environmental Engineering and Science, University of North Carolina, USA, Prof. Hillary Inyang, while a team of discussants, led by Mr. Roy Chatterjee, the Managing Director of Emel Advanced Power Solutions Ltd, includes Dr. Victor Fodeke of Africa Clean Energy Summit (ACES), Prof. Martiale Gaetan Zebaze Kana, the UNESCO Chair in Alternative Energy and Mr. Salisu Dahiru, the Director of Forestry in the Federal Ministry of Environment, Abuja.

Prof William Odiete, the Executive Director of Enville Institute, added “The mission of Enville Institute of Environmental and Safety Management, is the propagation of environmental, safety and healthcare  education with a view to promoting professionalism and producing competent people in the management of the corporate and industrial environment and through this, advocate actions that will compel all to minimise pollution, reduce waste, maximize the utilization of renewable resources, reduce carbon emission and climate warming actions, improve the efficiency of the utilization of input materials, save lives through encouraging clean and healthy environment, engender safe actions and living, reduce injuries and ill-health at work place, promote safe, secure, clean, healthy and harmonious environment and advocate the “catch them young” culture and thus empower the youth for productive self reliant life.
