Children International School, Lekki, Lagos, a privately owned school is reputed to be the most expensive school in Lagos state right now. The school is neatly tucked on Funke Zainab Usman Street, Lekki, Lagos. CIS is certainly not meant for the average income earner as it charges tuition fees in tunes of millions. The school comprises of pre school, nursery, primary and secondary with over 25 countries represented in the school population but the largest majority of pupils are Nigerians. The school follows a national curriculum of England, while children in the early years follow the national curriculum of Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The school caters for children between ages two and half years up to sixteen years where children sit for International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and GCSE. Equipped with the latest state of art learning facilities, children with special needs is also admitted into CIS.
The institutions boast of boarding facilities which include hostels with single or double rooms ensuite facilities, two ICT suites, Ebased library, three state of art science laboratory, two tennis court, two full size foot ball pitch, a basketball court, three special purpose music rooms, full size swimming pool and a host of other state of art facilities for conducive learning.
CIB opened in 2003 for its primary school section and 2007 for its secondary school section. The school relocated to its own self owned permanent site in September 2013.
CIS is run by a white man, Mark Mcluckie with the assistance of three Nigerian head teachers, Mrs. Joy Isa (Head teacher Primary), Mrs. Esther Anozia (Head Teacher Academia) and Mr. Chidi Nwankwo (Head Teacher, Pastoral). The school has a total of 78 staffers of which 26 are non teaching staff and 52 teaching staff, with a population of 600 students in a row between ages 2 to 16. The primary section comprises of 29 classes from pre school to primary six. Each class is divided into three-four arms.
Mode of admission into this highly reputation school is quite easy, however, it is not for an average family even the rich think twice before making their children/pupils of CIS as parents would cough out almost N10 million depending on your child’s age and class.
Admission into CIS starts with a registration fee of N40,000 for both primary and secondary students which does not automatically guarantee admission. Pupils would be assessed to ensure they fit into the class, if successful such a pupil would be assigned to a class and sport house.
Successful candidates would pay a non refundable fee of N2 million for accepting to be admitted into CIS, after which other processes, submission of medical reports and all other formalises would take place.
For pupil admitted into pre school at CIS, parents would pay N4.5 million per annum. Pupils of nursery and reception pay N4.7 million per annum, primary 1-6 pay N5.5 million per annum.
The secondary school day students parents cough out N6.4 million while parents of boarding house students pay N8.9 million.
All fees must be paid in full, latest two weeks after resumption, failure to meet up with the deadline would attract 10 percent outstanding payment.
However, the economic recession the country is combating is sure not affecting patronage of CIS, as residents of Funke Zainab Usman Street witnesses heavy gridlock whenever the school closes for the day.
