Nollywood comedy actor, John Okafor, popularly called Mr. Ibu, is currently in a good mood, and the reasons are not far-fetched. The gifted movie star was last week unveiled as brand ambassador for Merrybet Gold Limited.

In a chat with ENCOMIUM Weekly, Mr. Ibu said; “It feels great. I am happy to be honoured with that endorsement. This is just the beginning and I am sure more are coming.”

The comic star actor told us his role as the sports betting company’s ambassador.

“My role is to represent the brand and present prizes to winners of their ongoing promo, where a lot of prizes would be won.

“Let me use the opportunity to clear air on the story going on air that the company paid me N100 million for endorsing me. It’s not true, the N100 million is not for me, but money to be won by the people who participate in the promo.”

He declined to disclose the worth of the deal, but sources close to him said it’s between N7 million and N10 million.

Merrybet Gold operates a sports betting website in Nigeria. The company has just launched a new promotion, with as much as 100 million naira to be won in cash.

Mr. Ibu finally thanked all his fans for support, saying he’s currently working on new flicks to be out soon.

He said, “Even though piracy is killing our industry, and has stopped some people from producing movies, my fans should expect the best from me very soon.”
