Mrs Akeredolu Birth Registration Initiative Commences In Ifedore LGA

Wives of monarchs, LIOs, CDIs, Ward Focal Persons, the Chairperson of Ifedore Local Government and Office of Her Excellency today met on the need to kick start birth and death registration at Ifedore local government area.

Speaking at the meeting of Olori Connection at Ifedore Local Government where wives of monarchs from Ilara, Ibuji, Igbara-Oke, Mariwo, Ikota, Ero, Ipogun, Irese and Isharun were on ground to deliberate on workable framework in their respective communities, representatives from Office of Her Excellency stressed the importance of birth registration most especially noting that it is key to planning for the development of the state by the government.

Speaking at the meeting, the SSA, Women Affairs, Mrs Titi Adeyemi stressed that work should start in earnest as the government is depending on Ifedore, which was chosen as the Local Government Area to kick start the Akowe Abiye Birth Registration Programme from all hands are on deck to make it a success. “This is a big challenge for all of us in Ondo State- we must pledge that this programme must succeed”, she stressed.

In her remark, the chairperson of the local government, Bar. Yetunde Fanimi Ajibola, thanked the wife of the Governor for making Ifedore Local Government her first point of call for Olori for the Akowe Abiye Birth Registration Initiative.

While pledging their readiness to work, she tasked other key players on the need to be committed to the cause in order to achieve the goals of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent, Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH+ N), an agenda set by the First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs. Aisha Buhari.

Some of the criteria for the selection of ‘Akowe Abiye’ were later highlighted to include persons of integrity who could either be a retired teacher or nurse, who is willing to volunteer to work and has no official engagement among others.

The Special Assistant on Special Duties to the Wife of the Governor, Bar.Adegbemile Henry Kayode, used the opportunity to explain how the whole process is expected to work while also stressing that from studies conducted, a total of 56 or more Akowe Abiyes would be needed in Ifedore Local Government to carry out the task of registering every birth in the LGA.

Speaking with newsmen at the end of the programme, the Press Secretary to the Wife of the Governor, Miss Tobiloba Fademi lauded the initiative, noting that the success of the programme will go a long way in impacting future generation.

Miss. Fademi also noted that Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, is one of the wives of State Governors to have taken steps since signing commitment to the wife of the president, Mrs. Aisha Buhari on improvement of RMNCAH+N in their different states.
