MTN celebrates Kayo Kayo Festival with Epe indigenes

As part of its efforts to further promote arts and culture in Nigeria, leading ICT company, MTN Nigeria, supported the 2018 edition of Kayo Kayo festival observed by the descendants of Oba Kosoko – the first inhabitant of Eko-Epe in Epe, Lagos State.

Usually celebrated in the first month of the Islamic calendar in commemoration of a new Islamic year, this year’s Kayo Kayo festival rounded up on Saturday, 22nd of September 2018, and saw the MTN Sales and Distribution team present good tidings to the people of Epe.

MTN’s support of the festival is part of its larger initiative, KultureFest, designed to provide a boost for festivals across the country and create an enduring impact on the country’s socio-cultural landscape.

Reiterating the essence of KultureFest, the company’s Sales and Distribution Executive, Adekunle Adebiyi, said: “KultureFest is a major investment for us. We’ve been supporting festivals for over a decade now as we seek to promote culture and create affinity between the people of Nigerian communities and the MTN brand. We are picking 37 festivals across the country this year and I believe that by next year the number will increase.”

The initiative is borne out of the desire to preserve Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and project same to the world at large. In addition to putting the various cultural festivals in the country on the international pedestal, KultureFest also galvanizes their potential to generate revenue for the communities and engender communal bonding.

Under Kulture Fest, important festivals and traditions like the Ofala Nnewi, Argungu, Osun/Oshogbo, Ilorin Durbar festivals to mention a few, have been celebrated by MTN.
