  • Keep mum on her ex, Dominic Mudabai

CYNTHIA Okpala shot into limelight after clinching the deal to be MTV Base presenter, she was romantically linked with Dominic Mudabai, the winner of Gulder Ultimate Search in 2007 before they parted ways.  Now in a new relationship which is altar bound, on Thursday, July 15, 2010, ENCOMIUM Weekly had an interview with her on how she found love, her new programme, MTN Base IQ and her break up with Dominic Mudabai.

Congratulations on the debut of your programme with MTV Base, Celebrity Against Fan?

Thank you very much.

What informed the programme?

It is called MTV Base IQ, it is a show where we get fans who will contest against celebrities, they contest on

musical and general knowledge.  It is an everyday programme.

How prepared is Cynthia for this new challenge?

It’s fun, we have started shooting already, it’s been fun all the way.  We took questions from everywhere, music, general knowledge, things that people never thought of.  Sometimes celebrities win and some other times the fans win.  It is a lot of fun to see that happen, we will finish shooting in a couple of days and it will go on air in August.

What are the pains and gains of being MTV Base presenter?

I can only think more of the gains, it’s been very positive.  It has put me on a platform where other jobs can easily come my way, it has also put me on the platform to get more recognition and build my brand the way I desire.  The pain is also there though, one is that it is a very hectic job, the hours for shooting can be hectic, we can start in the morning and be there till night and I have to be out early the second day but its fun all the way.

So, you can really say it has been rewarding?

Yes, very rewarding.  The pay is good and the recognition is also rewarding.

Congratulations on your forthcoming marriage plans to Ozoemena Mbanefo?

Thank you, I got engaged sometimes back.  It feels great anyway, he has always been my friend.

Can you share your love story with us, how it all began?

He heads the group that I belong, it is called City Greeters, it’s a philanthropic group.  We go out for social work, visit the motherless babies’ home, the destitute, we give out gifts and encourage them.  He was the one heading the group when I joined them last year.

What would you say stands him out among others and what was the attraction?

He is God fearing, he is also a man of love and very principled. I have always looked for a man who is principled, it is one thing to be God fearing and another thing to have value and principles.  That was what attracted him to me.  He is also a man of integrity, he does not joke with his image.

When did he propose and how did he do it?

Everything was this year, it was an open proposal.  Other members of the group were present that day when he openly said it.  I was really surprised because it was just too open, just imagine a couple of friends came for a get together and he came out in their presence to ask for your hand in marriage.  I was really surprised.

What was your response?

After saying the word, everybody in the sitting room started screaming, ‘Say yes, say yes.’   I gave them a couple of minutes and deep breath, everybody was a bit worried thinking I was going to say no but eventually I said yes.

When will the wedding bell ring?

That is later this year.

You were once with Dominic Mudabai, what actually went wrong, everybody thought it will end at the altar?

Can we really not talk about that, it is my past.  I don’t want to go back to it again, don’t let us go to that issue.

Dominic said you broke up due to irreconcilable differences?

I really don’t want to talk about it.

How did it feel and what was the experience like?

I am still not making comments about it, the relationship is over as you know so, there is no need going into details about everything again.

Who was responsible for the break-up between the two of you?

Nothing, I don’t want too go into it, really I don’t want to make comments on it.  I am not ready to say anything about that relationship.

What sweet memories do you still cherish about the whole experience?

I do not want to talk about it. I don’t know why you are still bringing it up. I am not saying it in a bad way, I am just saying I really don’t want to talk about it.

What is your relationship with him now?

We are still friends, we still talk.

How have you been handling your male fans?

I have been handling them responsibly and positively. Its even simple for me, I am always polite with them but in the process I make sure I am cautious and set boundaries.
