Muma Gee and husband

Congrats on the arrival of your twins. How are you enjoying motherhood?
First, my husband and I thank God for His blessings. Motherhood is a remarkable stage in my life that caps up and completes my being. The experience is quite amazing and exciting but extremely stressful. The most fascinating aspect of motherhood is in the whole process that simply showcases the miraculous work of God. Trust me, seeing my babies for the first time kept me wondering and I screamed aloud waoooo! So these little human beings came out of me.
And a nurse said that’s God for you. Watching them grow brings such inexplicable joy.
What has been the sweetest thing about being a mom?
Uche, what can be compared to the fulfillment of partnering with God in procreation. For me, this is the sweetest thing about motherhood.
What about the challenges of motherhood, so far?
The challenges of motherhood, for me, is the sleepless nights and the pushing I get by my personal trainer who happens to be my own husband, Prince Eke to burn the baby fat as he can’t wait to have me back in shape. Part of it is also the home imprisonment the African tradition refers to as Omugwo. I have totally lost my freedom, not for too long though (laughs).

What is your typical day like now you are a mother?
As a new mom, it’s a very tasking one. Since the birth of my twins I have had to relocate from the master’s bedroom to the baby nursery with my mom, Mrs. Nancy Uwame.
So, together we keep watch as they wake in turns to eat and get changed into another clothes. And this happens three or four times’ before day- break. And as early as possible, my mom massages my body with hot water. Then she does same to my babies, get them dressed, feed and lure them to sleep.
At this point I have little time to attend to few domestic stuff and guests who have visited .And in no time, they’re up again. In fact, baby nursing is a full-time work.
Can you share with us your experience from the minute you were in labour till delivery?
My experience in the labour room is simply inexplicable. One may say it’s like being to hell and back, but God has a way of seeing women through. How I sailed through is surely the handwork of my Creator.
What was the first thing you did after you gave birth?
First thing I did was a scream in shock as I wondered how these little ones survived in me for that long and in fact, how they magically ventured out of my body.
Can you recall the first few words you spoke and the first call you made after birth?
The first word I spoke was, thank God that I survived, because I hear stories of women who lost their lives in the process. But the first person I spoke to on the phone was my husband through my nurse as he had been in communication with them before and during my labour.
There has been outpour of felicitation from Nigerians and your colleagues in the industry, how does it feel to be so loved and appreciated?
It feels special and I pray God to meet them all in their areas of need so I can in turn show them love.
How were you coping before your husband arrived from movie production trip overseas?
I was coping just fine because everything I needed and would be needing for the next six months had been put in place three months before, including the baby nursery.
Your twins are definitely God’s gift to you and your husband?
Our precious twins are indeed more than special gifts from God.
What are the things you can no longer do now?
Quite a lot.
Who has been helping out?
My mom, Mrs. Nancy Uwame, my cousin, Umasom David, and two professional baby nurses. My husband also helps at times though he is yet to keep his promise of cooking for me. Each time I remind him, he claims he is still preparing.
How old are your babies?
They are actually one month old today being May 18, 2014
What are their names?
My boy’s name is Prince Ceasar Chika Eke a.k.a Bobo oku (hot guy) and my girl’s name is Princess Cleopatra Chisa Eke aka Baby oku (Cool babe).
How are they doing?
They are doing pretty well.
Having known the twins for days, how would you describe them?
It’s difficult and too early to conclude as their character is still very much in the formative stage. New things would definitely unfold as the days go by. So, in fullness of time, I will tell you all you need to know.
You would definitely lose your shape, so what more are you doing to get back to shape?
Exercise and dieting.
You are Igbo by marriage. Has your mother/mother in-law come for the traditional Omugwo?
Yeah! Omugwo is very much in top gear. My mom came same day of the birth and my mother in-law, Mrs. Augusta Okoro nee Eke, (she s actually my husband’s only sister, who now represents their late mother) left last week Thursday, due to her work at the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute-Meta, Lagos, where she is an Assistant Chief Nursing Officer.
And I can understand, since she has finished performing her Omenela (rites), the Omugwo continues till dedication. Even this interview is an Omugwo interview (laughs).
Hope all the traditional ceremonies for child birth have been done?
Trust me on that one, as a cultural ambassador we must observe the ways of our people except the fetish ones because I’m a born Christian with Adventist background.
When are you staging the children’s dedication and where?
It’s going to be a special event on August 17, 2014, the eve of my hubby’s 40th birthday. The project is entitled, The Twin Dedication. The thanksgiving is at the Recovery House (Port Harcourt) pastored by Rev. Ugochukwu Unachukwu. The 40th birthday bash and Motherland album release concert will be an all night affair.
A lot of your associates and fans here in the nation’s entertainment capital, Lagos, want their own treat, any hope?
My friends, fans and family should come down to Port Harcourt, let’s paint it red on August 17.
So, how is married life?
Married life, in all fairness is sweet and sour. It brings in so much joy and yet takes a lot away from you as a woman. Maybe it’s easier for men.
How would you describe your husband?
A vivid description of my husband is that he is an extremely brilliant guy with great intelligence. He knows his onions and has got great personality. This is why he could marry me out of many suitors.
Doesn’t your being in the same job affect your family?
No, it helps us better with understanding and compactability as man and wife and at times business partners.
So how do you do other things, especially now you have children?
I have my office, fashion factory and studios in my house. So, for now, my clients, producers and tailors come to me except those whose business ends at MGEE (the fashion showroom).Besides, I’m seriously engrossed in nursing the babies.
Children come from God, we know, but if you had a choice, how many more kids would you love to have?
With this combination (the twins) now and the labour pain, hmmm… I’m not too sure now, Uche, but I will do my hubby’s wish, though. After all, he is not owing my people (laughs).
Your fans are still asking when Muma Gee is re-launching her career?
Let them wait and see the new me unfold.
So, where are you headed carrier wise and in life at large?
I’m heading for the tops. And that is where I belong.
