For over 14 years, MTN Nigeria’s social investment vehicle – the MTN Foundation – through its partnership with the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) has invested in educating music scholars. The scholars have acquired education culminating in the award of an internationally recognised Diploma through the MTN/MUSON Music Scholars Programme. The scholarship covers tuition, transportation and resource materials.
Alumni of this programme have gone on to apply the knowledge and skills acquired, establishing successful solo music careers or thriving in bands, production teams and orchestras within and outside Nigeria.
The country is rife with talent looking for opportunities to hone their skills and share their art. This is why it is worthy of note when organisations demonstrate appreciation and support for the country’s musical talent like the MTN Foundation does.
The Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON), in appreciation of MTN Nigeria’s continued dedication and contribution towards the actualisation of the dreams of its scholars and the development of Nigeria’s musical talent, organised a donor’s concert for MTN Nigeria and other donors as part of its end-of-the-year activities. The concert held at Shell Hall, MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos and featured performances by the scholars.
The MTN Foundation’s continued efforts towards youth education and skill development in music is a call to other stakeholders to increase their investment in the Nigerian youth.
