‘My husband can make any woman’s heart melt’ – Abimbola Fashola

BEING the wife of Lagos’ number one citizen is not a tea party.  Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola’s lovely wife, Abimbola, confessed in this exclusive chat with us that her husband is one in a million.  We also asked the amiable Lagos State first lady how she’s preparing for the forthcoming April polls, amongst other issues.

How would you describe ENCOMIUM’s Black and White Ball?

A beautiful and wonderful event. It’s out of this world.  I really enjoyed myself.

What would you say about ENCOMIUM magazine?

ENCOMIUM represents the face of Nigerian magazine and portrays the right and best way of reporting issues and events.  I’m a passionate reader of ENCOMIUM magazine and I love to associate with them.  I enjoyed the party and the music to the fullest.

What were those things that attracted you to Fashola when you first met?

His good sense of humour and a brave heart.  He is someone that makes a woman’s heart melt and there is never a dull moment with him.

Are there still more things you cherish about him?

fasholaOh, he is a very honest and very truthful person.

What don’t you like about him?

(Thinks for some seconds) Is there anything I don’t like about my husband?  Maybe because I don’t always see him. If I see him more often, I will know what I don’t like about him. I don’t see him more often anymore because of his job.

What role have you been playing to secure his re-election?

A very active role indeed. I have been very supportive both at home and his campaign rallies.  You know everything about a successful man starts from home.

Why do you think Lagosians need him for a second term in office?

Simply to continue and finish the good works he has started.  A lot of achievements were recorded in the last four years of his administration and for every developing state, continuity is the yardstick for achievement.

Although this is not a campaign ground, why must women vote for Fashola?

They have to vote for Fashola to continue the work he has started.  All Lagosians, not only the women, need to vote for Fashola to move Lagso to the next level.

How supportive have you been to your husband?

100 per cent. In fact, 200 per cent (laughs).

Can you please tell us a little about your experience in Government House, Alausa?

It has been very interesting, challenging and memorable.  I thank God for His protection over our family and Lagos State in general.

Now must be a very tough time for you. Juggling campaigns with family work, how has it been? How do you cope with your busy Governor-husband?

Oh, I have signed him off.  The moment he joined politics and later became governor, I signed him off.  I know I have to share him with the state.

Despite all the pressure and tight schedule, you still dress well, how do you do it?

Oh, that’s God.  A woman is multi-tasking.  So, she can do everything.  It is you men that cannot combine a lot of things.  We do.

What is it you can’t be caught wearing?

Men’s jacket (laughs).  And I can’t be caught being naked at an event.

What’s your last word for Lagosians, particularly women and children?

For us women, we have to think about ourselves.  We have our husbands and children to take care of, but on the other hand, we have to take care of ourselves.  As regards breast cancer and other diseases, we have to go for medical check-ups regularly.  And for our children, please love your parents.
