My-Name is A-Zed: The Naked Convos’ much-anticipated web series finally debuts

Following the commercial success of the fictional podcast series, My Name Is A-Zed in February 2020, critically-acclaimed online entertainment platform, The Naked Convos (TNC) have adapted the much-loved story to the screen as an online web-series.

My Name is A-Zed chronicles the life of Azeez, a university student who frequents as a cab driver and finds himself thrust in the dangerous world of Lagos nightlife and politics as he tries to solve the medical needs of his ailing mother. The web series is replete with compelling writing, touching on themes and subjects that many young Nigerians will find relatable and connective.

The web series is the second audiovisual adaptation of The Naked Convos’ fictional young-adult stories. The first; My Best Friend’s Wedding, debuted to an unprecedented level of mainstream support and nods from the industry, clinching nominations for Best TV Show Of The Year and producing the Best Lead Role In TV winner at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards.

Directed by Daniel Oriahi, My Name Is A-Zed is a continuation of daring, original stories from The Naked Convos. The platform is characterised by a degree of artistic freedom, and openness to discussing ‘forbidden’ conversations around sex, politics, gender, identity, love, religion, amongst others. This artistic choice has proven to be a success for the platform as it commands a hub of loyalists dedicated to consuming their articles and posts.

Starting as a written fictional series a decade ago, My Name Is A-Zed is set to sate young Nigerians’ hunger for originality within the creative industry.

Featuring a promising cast of Bryan Okoye, who stars as the titular character, A-Zed; Gbugbemi Ejeye as Princess, and Ijeoma Grace Agu as Cassy, My Name Is A-Zed is free to watch on The Naked Convos’ YouTube platform, with new episodes premiering every Thursday at 6 pm.
