#MySuperStarStory: I bought music instruments with my school fees – Fliptyce

Folorunso Philips, popularly known as Fliptyce is no doubt one of the most patronized music producers in the country having worked with top acts like Omawumi, Oritsefemi, Yemi Alade and produced hits like May D’s Many Tins, P Square’s club banger, Chop My Money which had US singer, Akon on it and Yemi Alade’s kissing.

Things weren’t always this good for the soft-spoken music maker. While sharing his story on a recent #MySuperStarStory interview, he narrated his journey to stardom.

Unlike many others, Fliptyce knew what he wanted to do shortly after his secondary school but that didn’t make it an easy journey. He revealed ‘I remember at some point after much rejection, I walked into a computer store and asked to use their computers to make beats but they refused me.

Eventually, he used his school fees to buy musical equipment, which made people doubt his sanity. Things eventually picked up after much struggle and he gradually rose into prominence, ‘The turning point for me as a record producer was when I made Chop My Money, the remix version and it became the biggest thing that ever came out of Africa’, he said.

#MySuperStarStory aims to celebrate and recognize stories of triumph over adversity and thus inspire young Nigerians to be successful. There is a STAR in everyone. You can join the conversation and share your own superstar story on social media using the hashtag #MySuperStarStory.
