Nation awaits INEC on election schedule, Jega yet to brief the press

The nation awaits the announcement of the schedule for the 2015 elections as journalists are eager for information from the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega who has been meeting with stake-holders since 11 am today (Saturday, February 7, 2015).

A meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners of the 36 states is still underway by 10.18 pm.

Prof. Jega was expected to address journalists by 5 pm, but it was postponed to 9 pm – and adjourned until further notice.

The decision to postpone the February 14 Presidential and National Assembly elections, and the February 28 Governorship and Houses of Assembly elections was yet to be taken, contrary to speculations.

Prof. Jega has been meeting with representatives of political parties, civil liberties organisations and INEC commissioners.

Speculations about a 6-week postponement rage afield – but nothing is confirmed yet officially.
