Nearly 2,000 say ‘I Do’ at the same time in Rio (Brazil) event

Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) is not only home to one of the world’s wonders (Christ the Redeemer statue), it is also home to one of the most bizarre events in the world – the ‘I Do Day’.

The annual event aimed at helping low-income couples who cannot afford to pay for a wedding saw nearly 2,000 couples tie the knot on Sunday, November 30, in the ceremony attended by an estimated 12,000 people at the Maracanazinho arena (near the famous Maracana stadium).

The day sees guests get a free ride on local trains – nicknamed the ‘I Do Day Train’ just for the occasion.
