New King Richard’s DNA shakes Queen’s claim to the throne

Scientists have compared genes from King Richard III with some of his living descendants and discovered that someone in the royal line was illegitimate – claims which may have shaken the Queen’s hold on the throne.

The team leader of the research, Professor Kevin Schurer, said: “We are not in any way indicating that Her Majesty should not be on the throne”.

The team at the University of Leicester (England) have been studying the body of Richard since it was discovered under a Leicester car park in 2012.
