Driving a 25-tonne lorry for over a mile into a crowd of merry makers, French-Tunisian Mohammed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, mauled adults and children as they celebrated Bastille Day in Nice last night (Thursday, July 14), killing about 84 people and injuring over a hundred in a mindless attack.
After killing and injuring scores with his lorry on high speed, climbing pavements, zig zagging dangerously, he brought out a gun, shot at revellers who were trying to escape from the ghastly scene, in a 30 minute rampage which ended when he was killed by police.
Bouhlel who had earlier been stopped by police yesterday in the same area where he murdered revellers celebrating one of France’s most important holidays, lied that he was delivering ice cream. The killer shouted Allah Akbar ( God is great) before he was shot by police.
Inside his lorry was a huge cache of guns, grenades and more weapons. His identity card was also in the vehicle.
ISIS has been celebrating the attack, the third terror attack in 18 months in France. President Francois Hollande has declared three days of mourning from today (Friday, July 15) as the world unites behind France, condemning the dastardly massacre.
With ten babies and children killed, and another 54 being treated in hospitals, adults, including foreigners were counted among the dead.
The killing spree, around 10:30 pm local time, saw bodies littering the famous Promenade des Anglais.
