At a time the unity, cohesion and corporate existence of Nigeria is threatened by mutual suspicion and ethnic agitations, the TV Drama Series, Professor Johnbull, sponsored by the grandmasters of data, Globacom, has advocated for inter-tribal marriage as an instrument for enhancing national unity.
In the new episode entitled Saving Nigeria, and airing on Tuesday at 8.30 p.m. on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on Startimes, major characters in the Series such as the lead character, Professor Johnbull (Kanayo O. Kanayo), Olaniyi (Yomi Fash-Lanso), Flash (Stephen Odimgba) and Ufoma (Bimbo Akintola) with the concurrence of Professor Johnbull’s househelp, Nje (Angela Okorie), unanimously support inter-tribal marriage as a means of promoting national integration.
Refusing bluntly to succumb to the objection of one of his customers, not to propose to his heartthrob, Nje, on the ground that the two are from different ethnic backgrounds, the restauranteur, Olaniyi, goes academic by submitting that inter-tribal marriage in a diversify nation like Nigeria, will ensure an end to “antagonistic tribal demarcation”.
No character in Saving Nigeria plays up the mutual suspicion among the various ethnic groups in the country than Ufoma’s uncle, who not only objects to the secret love feelings for Professor Johnbull by Ufoma and would have had Samson (Ogus Baba), the picaro, as an in-law just because he is from the Niger Delta like Ufoma, but equally objects to Ufoma’s employment relationship with Mai Doya (Funky Mallam) on the excuse that Mai Doya comes from the North.
Professor Johnbull’s view on inter-tribal marriage is that Nigerians should not allow cultural boundaries to affect marriage as varieties in marriage bring about cultural integration, national integration and calls for deliberate re-orientation to disabuse the minds of people that marrying from different tribe is cultural aberration.
The repeat broadcast of Saving Nigeria comes up on Friday at 8.30 p.m. on the channels mentioned earlier.
