Nigerians applaud Atedo Peterside after explosive subsidy interview

Many Nigerians were left impressed with the chairman of Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc, Atedo Peterside, following his interview on Channels TV on Monday, May 16, 2016 where he spoke on the recent removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.

He said it was imperative that the government as a matter of urgency, removed subsidy on petrol even as he canvassed for complete deregulation, rather that enforcing price caps.

He said, “If anything, the case for deregulation is even stronger now than in 2012 for a variety of reasons. I’m among those who believe that the prices of crude oil have changed forever with the advent of shale producers. The revenue profile of Nigeria is worse today than it was in 2012.

“The argument, if you remember in 2012 was that people said they wouldn’t mind adjustments if only the government itself would take some pain. This government has shown that they are willing to take some pain; from the President to the Vice and so on. If you don’t do it with this government, I don’t know when you’ll ever do it.
