Encomium
The continued silence of President Muhammad Buhari on the current killings in Agatu community of Benue state by blood- thirsty Fulani herdsmen has been greeted by severe
criticisms from different quarters of the country. However, those encomium.ng sought their views also condemned the president’s perceived inaction on the alleged genocide, likened to Boko Haram insurgent activities which has also claimed thousands of lives. They stressed that Buhari’s visible action is needed in addressing the issue to avoid being adjudged sentimental and insensitive.

I think President Buhari is just paying a lip service to the stupid killings of the Agatus in Benue state because the perpetrators are Fulani, and maybe he doesn’t want to offend his tribesmen. He has forgotten he is the president of Nigerians, not the Fulani. It’s unfair. He shouldn’t wait till the whole thing gets to the level of Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East before checking it.”

I didn’t expect that President Buhari wouldn’t have taken any bold step to address the barbaric killings going on in Benue by Fulani nomads. I thought he would deploy troops to the area since the news broke, but up till now, no reasonable step has been taken by the Federal Government on the tragic incident. I am sure many Nigerians are bitter about it. Even, former senate president, David Mark lamented. Or is president Buhari afraid of his people?

I think President Buhari should tell Nigerians why he has maintained sealed lips on the continued killings of people of Agatu in Benue state by Fulani cattle rearers who invaded the community recently. He can’t say because the perpetrators were Fulani and he will remain silent on the issue. Nigerians need to know why he didn’t take a decisive measure against them. Or is he waiting until there is a reprisal attack by the Agatu or people of Benue state as a whole before taking a step? To me, Buhari’s continued silence is suspicious.”
A couple of weeks back, a group of Fulani herdsmen reportedly over ran the Agatu community in Benue state, allegedly killing about 500 villagers, mostly farmers. But to the disappointment of many Nigerians, President Buhari is yet to take stern decisions on those behind the alleged genocide.
